Nice-Carnival-Events

Bonjour! I’d like to introduce the enchanting world of Nice Carnival, one of the most iconic events on the French Riviera. Carnival is one of the most anticipated, vibrant, and lively events on the French Riviera and attracts visitors from around the world. This amazing event is held annually from February 17th to March 3, and is a celebration of color, creativity, tradition, music, joy and life that will make your heart beat faster. So hold on tight as I take you through a moving riot of colors, music and infectious energy that will linger in your memory forever!

To fully be indulged in the magic of the Nice Carnival, the perfect accommodation for you is no other than Villa Hippocampo in Villefranche-sur-Mer. This luxury villa in Villefranche-sur-Mer will offer you stunning views, spacious rooms and will be your oasis during your stay on the beautiful Cote d’Azur.

Upon entering the streets of Nice during the Carnival season, you will immediately be caught up in the lively atmosphere. Laughter and excitement are in the air. It feels like there is just something in everyone giving off positive energy. The parades have always been my thing and I’ve enjoyed watching from the bleachers in the past. However, this time around I decided to try out something different for once. And trust me folks, this one is a hidden treasure!

Anantara Plaza Hotel

I’ve recently discovered that Anantara Plaza Hotel has a rooftop bar from where it is possible to view all of the parades at once with an eagle eye. It is a fantastic alternative to the street or bleachers!

The Nice Carnvial is the oldest and most important winter event on the Côte d’Azur, celebrating its 151st anniversary in 2024. This year’s theme is “King of Pop Culture”. This event will run for two weeks and will liven up the city of Nice with colorful parades, flower “battles”, elegant float displays, and much enthusiasm.

The most outstanding activity of Carnival Nice is definitely the grand parade. The pompous vehicle floats move through the parade route while performers wearing stunning costumes follow. Each appears as if they are from a dream, whether majestic kings or queens or strange beings resembling those found in fairy tales.

On February 17 an opening parade will kick off the celebration which will be held at Place Massena at 2:30 P.M. This opening event will welcome you with a spectacular display of floats, musical troupes, dancers, and more. Other anticipated events include the illuminated carnival parade on the evenings of February 17,20,24 and 27.  March 2 is a “must see” as the floats will illuminate with an amazing display of lights and animations. On February 25, you will not want to miss the Carnival Corso where floats are decorated with seasonal themes and will parade through the streets of Nice. The unique “Flower Battle” on February 21, 24, 28, and March 2 is a procession of floats with floral arrangements that will be a feast for your eyes!

For a unique Carnival experience, look forward to Lou Queernaval on February 23. This is the first gay Carnival in France that is open for all and it aims to spread the ideals of inclusivity. This parade features feathers, dazzling sequins, vibrant costumes and bizarre creatures.

Other than the grand parades and battles, there are other activities which you can enjoy such as The Great Charivari, Ball Veglione, Frenchy Brunch, K-pop Night and more! As you join the crowd, it is hard not to be swept away  by infectious music, pounding drums mixed together with trumpet blasts and tambourines. As the night approaches, a beautifully illuminated moment with fireworks is one of the most magical moments where the skies are painted with vibrant colors.

La Petite Maison

Of course, no Carnival experience would be complete without indulging in some delicious treats. There are crepes, churros, and assorted pastries that you only see on Instagram come alive and fill the streets. The scent of these fresh pastries are really mouthwatering. Believe me, you will face a crisis choosing what to eat! For dining options, Nice has a lot of fantastic restaurants to choose from. One of my favorites is La Petite Maison a beautiful restaurant that serves outstanding Mediterranean cuisine in a cozy setting. Be sure to try their signature truffle risotto. It will give you a truly unforgettable experience.

The closing activities on March 2-3 at Promenade des Anglais will bring the Carnival to a grand and extravagant finale. Saying goodbye to Carnival Nice is sad. However, the experience is a truly magical and wonderful time that is unforgettable.

If you are staying at Villa Hippocampo in March, don’t miss out on the magic of the Nice Carnival! It is truly an unforgettable experience whether you are traveling with friends, family, loved ones, or on your own. It will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.
